If you do not have a serial number, you can choose to run PhotoTools in demo mode; demo mode allows full functionality for 30 days.
Please register using one of the built-in electronic registration methods. If you do not have a modem, fax/modem, or printer, you may fill out the registration card in the back of the manual.
Microtek Scanners
Microtek scanners may interfere with the built-in electronic registration process. If you are using a Microtek scanner, please turn it off before attempting to register PhotoTools. You may turn the scanner back on once the registration process is complete.
Late-Breaking New Feature
We added a new feature to PhotoCastShadow at the last minute that is not documented in the manual: to create a "perspectivized" shadow effect, hold down the Command & Option keys while adjusting a corner point of the shadow. Very cool!
Note on Third Party Compatibility
Due to its advanced capabilities, PhotoTools 2.0 currently works in Photoshop 3.0.4 & higher only. It does not work in any other application which supports Photoshop plug-ins.
Notes to PhotoTools 1.x Users
Preserving old files
If you have created your own custom buttons or icons using PhotoBars 1.x, you may want to save them before running the 2.0 installer. The 2.0 installer will overwrite these files unless you move them.
To preserve your Custom Buttons file and Toolbar Picture files please follow these steps:
To preserve your custom buttons
1. Go to the following location in your Photoshop folder structure:
3. If you want to preserve your old Custom Buttons, move the "Custom Buttons" category file to another location.
4. After running the 2.0 installer, move your old "Custom Buttons" category file back into the Preferences folder & replace the recently installed one.
To preserve your custom icons
1. Go to your Preferences folder and locate the file "Toolbar Pictures"
2. If you want to preserve your old icon pictures, move the Toolbar Pictures file to another location.
3. After running the 2.0 installer, move your old "Toolbar Pictures" file back into the Preferences folder & replace the recently installed one.
Removing old files
The PhotoTools plug-in and PhotoTools.plug files, from version 1.x, are automatically removed during the 2.0 Installation. These files are moved to the Trash.
Preserving old saved effect settings
If you have saved an effect setting in PhotoShadow, PhotoGlow, PhotoEmboss, or PhotoBevel, that setting will automatically be available for use in your 2.0 counterparts. You don't have to do anything!
Reinstalling PhotoTools 1.x
If for some reason you want to reinstall version 1.x of PhotoTools after installing PhotoTools 2.0, you will have to manually remove the 2.0 files beforehand. The 1.x installer will not overwrite 2.0 files.
